Ugears STEM Lab Calculator
Find out how the mechanical counter and mechanical multiplier works
The STEM Lab Calculator is a compact calculator that works by moving gear racks using a pin that is included. By moving the sliders, marked with arrows and numbers from 0 to 9, you can add and/or subtract numbers. The mechanical multiplier is a flat hinge mechanism that performs binary operations on numbers. Moving the double slider will multiply numbers from 1 to 12.
Who invented the mechanical math kit and mechanical multiplier, and when?
The UGEARS Mechanical rekenkit is a DIY wooden model kit based on a math kit invented in 1846 by a Saint Petersburg music teacher, Heinrich Kummer. Its simple design and compact size made it a popular mathematical tool in its day.
