The Gearbox is an educational model with an interactive study guide to learn the essence and principles of its operation.

A mechanical gearbox is a reducer that provides speed and torque conversions from an engine to the driving wheels. Once fitted, you can experiment with the UGears manual transmission by taking turns choosing I, II, III or reversing with a few gears with different ratios.

By turning the control handle clockwise, you can view the rotation and control the speed of the intermediate shaft and drive shaft. In position "N" - neutral/idle with both intermediate shaft clutch wheels disengaged and stationary; the first gear rotates the intermediate shaft and gears at the lowest speed; second gear spins the drive shaft along with the flywheel at medium speed and third gear spins the intermediate shaft and all gears at the highest speed.

Engage reverse gear and watch as the drive clutch moves to the left toward gear “R” and connects to it, transferring rotation to the lower gear and the countershaft turning all gears backwards.

When and who invented it

The invention of the gearbox is from the well-known German engineer Karl Benz.

A gearbox is mainly used in the automotive industry as part of a cars transmission mechanism that transfers the clutch from the motor shaft to the wheels.
